Exam Regulations

Study and Examination Regulations for the Modular Training Program of the Web Professional Institute (WPI)

Version 1.0 from 1.8.2024

§ 1 Scope and Purpose

  1. These examination regulations govern the content, structure and procedure of all training courses in the WPI program offered by WPI-authorized training partners.

  2. They apply to all participants in these training programs and specify the requirements for examinations and the awarding of certificates.

§ 2 Modular Curriculum and Certifications

  1. The internet, and especially the World Wide Web, is indispensable in today's business world. Whether it's e-commerce, e-government, or digital marketing strategies, the demands on web applications are constantly increasing. Developing and implementing such complex systems requires highly qualified professionals with specific competencies.

  2. WPI's goal is to train specialists for the digital economy. Through practical projects and case studies, participants are optimally prepared for the challenges of professional life. The knowledge and skills imparted lead to recognized certificates that ensure long-term professional success.

  3. The WPI curriculum is flexible and can be individually adapted to personal learning goals. It consists of various modules composed of individual learning units. The modules can be completed individually or in combination to gain a comprehensive overview of the digital economy.

  4. WPI awards various certificates based on the successful completion of one or more modules. The exact composition of the modules depends on the respective certificate and allows for flexible design of the individual training path.

  5. The continuous development of the WPI curriculum is based on a comprehensive analysis of the job market, the recommendations of an expert council and feedback from students and trainers. Regular market analyses, expert interviews and student surveys ensure that the curriculum always meets the current requirements of the digital economy.

  6. The didactic concept focuses on the development of skills. Practice-oriented teaching methods such as projects, case studies and simulations enable participants to apply the knowledge they have acquired in real-world professional situations. In addition to subject-specific knowledge, they also acquire overarching key qualifications such as independence, creativity and communication skills.

§ 3 Admission to Training Programs Based on the WPI Curriculum

  1. To participate in the training programs, participants must be at least 16 years old.

  2. Additional admission requirements can be found in the respective module descriptions.

  3. Participation in the examination requires prior approval of the examination regulations.

  4. If an online exam cannot be completed or cannot be completed in full due to technical problems at a specific time, it must be completed to the end as soon as possible or made up.

  5. WPI assumes no liability for inconveniences caused by technical disruptions, such as data loss or time delays.

§ 4 Structure and Duration of Training

  1. WPI provides an estimated workload for each module. This estimate is based on extensive calculations and experience from previous courses. It is oriented toward the average time spent by participants. However, Authorized Training Partners (ATPs) have the option of adjusting the workload estimate to the specific needs of their target group or to their individual teaching design.

  2. Typically, multiple modules are linked together to allow for the acquisition of a WPI certification. However, it is also possible to complete individual modules or combinations of modules without aiming for full certification. This offers participants a high degree of flexibility in designing their training.

  3. The course content is dynamic and is updated regularly. The current content can be found in the respective module description.

§ 5 Exams and Assignments

  1. Each module must be completed in the form of theoretical exams and practical assignments.

  2. The theoretical exams, known as “Class Exams,” are conducted online and automatically graded. These exams assess the acquired knowledge.

  3. Practical assessments take the form of project work, which must be completed independently. They are evaluated by certified examiners based on standardized assessment criteria.

  4. All exams can only be taken during a course participation with a WPI Authorized Training Partner.

  5. Any form of cheating is strictly prohibited during exams. This includes, but is not limited to, using aids such as cheat sheets, reference materials, or electronic devices, or receiving assistance from others.

  6. Each examinee must submit a signed statement affirming that they have completed the project work independently.

  7. In justified exceptional cases, such as illness, an extension of the submission deadline may be granted.

§ 6 Confidentiality Agreement

  1. The exam content is copyrighted and considered confidential information of WPI. It is provided to students solely for the purpose of preparing for and taking the exam. Any copying, reproduction, distribution, or publication of exam questions, answers, or parts thereof, whether in written, electronic, or oral form, is strictly prohibited. This includes creating and distributing memory aids (so-called “braindumps”).

  2. Violations of the confidentiality agreement will result in serious consequences. The examination committee may revoke any previously awarded certificate and exclude the examinee from future exams. Additionally, WPI reserves the right to take legal action.

§ 7 Repetition of Examinations

  1. As a general rule, exams cannot be retaken. Once a "Class Exam" has been graded, the result is final. Project work may be returned for revision under certain circumstances, such as if significant portions are missing or the task has not been fully completed. After revision, the project must be resubmitted.

  2. If a participant re-enrolls in the same course, they must repeat all assessments, including the project, in their entirety.

  3. Participants may repeat courses offered by WPI ATPs as often as they wish. There is no waiting period between course enrollments. This allows participants to deepen their knowledge, focus on specific topics, or improve their final grades.

§ 8 Grading of Examination Performance

Examination performance is assessed as a percentage and then converted into grades according to the following scale:

Percentage range

Grade

Explanation

90-100%

an outstanding performance

80-89%

Very good

a performance that significantly exceeds the requirements

70-79%

Good

a performance that exceeds the requirements

60-69%

Satisfactory

a performance that meets the requirements

50-59%

Sufficient

0-49%

Not sufficient

a performance that no longer meets the requirements due to significant deficiencies

§ 9 Purpose and Scope of Certifications

  1. Certificates and diplomas serve as proof of successfully acquired specialized knowledge and skills. They are awarded upon successful completion of the respective modules. Certificates specialize in a specific subject area and are often the result of continuing education. Diplomas offer an interdisciplinary overview and are usually awarded as part of more comprehensive training programs.

  2. Performance is assessed on a module-by-module basis. Each module is concluded with a score report that contains the results of the theoretical and practical exams. The overall grade for a module is calculated as a weighted average of the individual results.

  3. To obtain a certification, an average grade of at least 50% must be achieved in each required module.

  4. Successful graduates receive a certificate or diploma in addition to their module score reports.

  5. While diplomas are usually valid indefinitely, the validity of certificates may be time-limited. The exact validity period can be found in the current module description.

§ 10 Absence, Withdrawal, and Academic Dishonesty

  1. An examinee who misses an exam without a valid reason or withdraws from an exam prematurely will automatically receive a failing grade. The same applies to the failure to submit practical examination tasks on time.

  2. Any attempt to influence the exam result through cheating, using unauthorized aids, or plagiarism will also result in a failing grade.

  3. If an examinee disrupts the orderly conduct of an exam, they may be excluded from further participation. In this case, the relevant exam performance is considered to be failed.

  4. Examinees must provide a valid written reason for missing or withdrawing from an exam without delay. In case of illness, a medical certificate is usually required.

  5. Examinees may appeal decisions based on allegations of cheating or disruption of the exam process in writing to the chair of the examination committee within four weeks. The examination committee will make a final decision on the appeal.

§ 11 Invalidity of Examinations

  1. If the prerequisites for admission to an exam were not met, but the candidate did not intentionally conceal this fact, and this is only discovered after the certificate has been issued, this defect is healed by passing the exam.

  2. If the candidate has fraudulently obtained admission, the examination committee may declare the exam invalid and order further measures, such as exclusion from further educational programs.

  3. If a candidate has cheated during an exam and this is only discovered after the certificate has been issued, the examination committee may, after hearing the candidate, grade the affected exam results as “failed” or declare the entire exam invalid.

  4. If an exam has been declared invalid due to cheating, the incorrect examination certificate and, if applicable, the certificate must be revoked. The examination committee decides on the issuance of a replacement certificate.

§ 12 Access to Examination Records and Appeals

  1. There is no right to inspect examination questions or grading materials.

  2. If an examinee has substantial doubts about their exam result, they may submit a written appeal within seven days of receiving the result.

  3. The appeal must be in writing and addressed to the examination committee.

  4. A fee is charged for processing the appeal. The amount of the fee is published on the WPI website.

  5. The examination committee will decide on the appeal within three months.

  6. If the appeal is successful, the exam result will be corrected, and the fee will be refunded.

  7. If the appeal is rejected, the original result will stand, and the fee will not be refunded. The rejection will be explained in writing.

  8. There is no right of appeal against decisions of the examination committee.

§ 13 Examination Committee

  5. Membership ends automatically at the end of the term, upon written request, or by revocation of the appointment by the WPI.

  6. If a member leaves early, a new member is appointed for the remainder of the term.

  7. The examination committee is considered to be quorate when more than half of its members are present.

  8. Decisions are made by a simple majority of the members present. In the event of a tie, the chair has the casting vote.

  9. Minutes must be kept of the meetings, which include the resolutions adopted, the main points of discussion, and the names of the members present.

  10. The examination committee has the following duties:

    • Overseeing compliance with the examination regulations and ensuring the quality of examinations.

    • Deciding on admission to examinations, extensions, absences, withdrawals, attempts at cheating, and the invalidity of examinations.
