WPI Curriculum Module: Project Management Fundamentals
This module provides a comprehensive overview of project management principles and methodologies, equipping you with the essential skills to successfully plan, execute, and deliver projects. You will learn how to define clear project objectives, create detailed project plans, and manage project timelines and budgets effectively.
The module delves into the key concepts of project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and control. You will explore various project management methodologies, including traditional project management and agile methodologies like Scrum and Kanban. You will learn how to adapt their approach to different project contexts and leverage the strengths of each methodology.
By understanding the importance of effective communication, risk management, and stakeholder management, you will be able to build strong relationships with team members, clients, and other stakeholders. You will also learn how to use project management tools to track progress, identify potential issues, and make data-driven decisions.
This module empowers you to become a skilled project manager who can deliver successful projects on time and within budget. By mastering the fundamentals of project management, you will be well-prepared to take on challenging projects and drive organizational success.
After completing this module, you'll be able to:
Define project scope and objectives: You will learn how to clearly define project goals, deliverables, and constraints.
Plan and manage project timelines: You will be able to create detailed project schedules, identify dependencies, and manage project timelines effectively.
Apply project management methodologies: You will be able to apply both traditional and agile project management methodologies to different project contexts.
Effectively communicate and collaborate: You will be able to communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and clients, and collaborate effectively within project teams.
This module consists of the following classes:
How do you implement projects in such a way that the project goals are achieved within the budget and time frame? This is the key question we address in this class. We examine what constitutes a project and what distinguishes it from day-to-day business. We shed light on the question of what distinguishes web projects from other IT projects and makes them so special, what agile project methods are and why they have now also become established in web projects. You will learn how you can combine the classic tasks of project managers with the new agile management and project methods such as OKR and Scrum to ensure a smooth project process and project success.
This module as a workload of approximately 20 hours. The workload includes the total amount of time that course participants have to successfully complete the course.
